D42
lies west of the city of Emmen. You can get close to the hunebed by car.
However for the last 500 metres you will have to walk through the woods.
Unfortunately this hunebed is not what it used to be. Boulder collectors
must have been busy here. Archaeologist Van Giffen established that D42
must have been a big hunebed with 9 capstones. Only 4 are left of
which 2 are in place. Van Giffen marked the 7 missing sidestones and 1
endstones by concrete imprints in the soil.
Big trees have a liking for
old stonegraves, as it seems. The impressive tree that belongs to D42
put his roots even right into the burial chamber. |
