D30, Exloo - State Forest

D30 attracts many tourists, because it lies on a scenic route. It's a small hunebed with originally 4 or 5 capstones. Three of them are left. On the picture you can see the two small passagestones. The third capstone, on the photo still lying in the grave, has recently been placed on its uprights again.
In 1918 this hunebed was the subject of a thorough investigation by Prof. Van Giffen. He discovered five layers or floors. Between the floors he found many potsherds, axes and spearheads. The distance between the lowest floor and the ceiling of the chamber amounted to 170 cm. This means that a grownup man could stand upright here. Just outside the chamber investigators found 3 decorated dishes.
